Germany’s Oscar Otte enjoyed a two-week stay in Great Britain in the first half of February which saw him collect his first British singles titles following victories in Tipton and Shrewsbury.

The Tipton title, his first singles title win since August 2016 in Germany, came as the tournament’s eighth seed and his run to the final saw him post successive straight sets wins including a 76(7) 75 semifinal win over the top seed Laurynas Grigelis from Lithuania.

The final was played the day after Otte had won the doubles title alongside Jannis Kahlke, a match in which the German duo came from a set down to defeat the Italian second seeds Andrea Pellegrino and Andrea Vavassori.

Sixth seed David Guez from France was Otte’s opponent for the singles title but, like those before him, Guez was unable to take a set off the 23-year-old and, in his third final of the year, Otte took the title with a 75 63 win.

A second singles title was secured the following week in Shrewsbury but there was no repeat of his doubles success as Otte and Kahlke were eliminated in round two having led their British conquerors Finn Bass and Morgan Phillips.

In the singles event, Otte continued his run of straight sets victories from Tipton throughout the week in Shrewsbury seeing off three qualifiers and a wild card entrant to make the final and a meeting with Britain’s Marcus Willis. Otte, seeded seventh here, eventually took the title in a close match against the fifth seed, winning 75 76(4) and, by the end of the month had risen to a new ATP singles career high ranking of 386 and broken into the Top 200 in doubles.
