NEW DELHI, INDIA: Chinese Taipei heads the field for this week’s Asia/Oceania Final Qualifying event for the Junior Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Finals.

Chinese Taipei are top seeds at the boys’ under 16 international team event in New Delhi on 12-18 March, knowing that finishing on top at the end of the week would see them earn a place in the Junior Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Finals in Budapest, Hungary on 18-23 September.

Chinese Taipei are led by Tseng Chun Hsin, the world junior No. 80 who leapt 18 places in the boys’ rankings last Monday after winning the title at a Grade 3 junior event in Shenzhen the previous week. Tseng, the highest-ranked junior in action in New Delhi, will be joined by teammates Tsai Chang Lin and Lin Han Chih in pursuit of a place in September’s Finals.

Sixteen nations are taking part in New Delhi this week, with China P.R., Korea, Republic, Japan, Australia, India, Philippines and Uzbekistan completing the line-up of seeded nations.

Third seeds Korea, Republic will have high hopes of qualification as they bid for another place in September’s Finals, having finished runner-up in back-to-back years in 2013, falling to Spain, and 2014, losing to USA, when the event was held in San Luis Potosi, Mexico.

The Final Qualifying started on Sunday 12 March, owing to the public holiday in India on the 13 March, and will resume on Tuesday 14 March before proceedings conclude in the boys’ event on Saturday. The girls’ Final qualifying event will follow at the same venue on 20-25 March.
