BELGAUM, INDIA: The doubles event has come to an end here on Friday (21st) and with much of the days talk being about the Mayan Prophecy of the apocalypse it was the unseeded American pairing of Amrit Narasimhan and Michael Shabaz who sent out shockwaves.

The pair saw off the challenges of three of the four seeded teams in successive rounds including the final itself where they defeated the top seeds.

Narasimhan and Shabaz only teamed up together for the first time in early February this year and reached the final in Guatemala. Until the start of December this was to be their only outing.

Recent results have seen them lose in the second round at the Davanagere, India tournament and then last week they claimed the title at Dharwad, India which was a first doubles title on the ITF Pro Circuit for either player.

Their title win this week came in a tense near two hour 76(3) 75 win over the Indian number one seeds Vijay Sundar Prashanth and Arunprakash Rajagopalan having seen off the second and fourth seeds in the semifinal and quarterfinal respectively.

The champions were presented with their trophy & cheque from the Registrar of VTU Dr. Krishnamurthy with Sunil Yajaman the Tournament Director, Mr. Shekarappa the PG co-ordinator, VTU and Dr. Bettegowda the Director of Physical Education, VTU looking on.

VTU today announced the institution of a trophy named the 'VTU Rolling Trophy' to be presented to the champion of the International Tennis event by the Hon'ble Vice Chancellor every year in an ongoing basis.
