Sabine Ellerbrock of Germany won her second Super Series title on Saturday at the US Open USTA Wheelchair Tennis Championships, part of the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour, as Stephane Houdet and Michael Jeremiasz set up an all-French men’s singles final and David Wagner and Nick Taylor set up an all-American quad singles final in St. Louis.

World No. 3 Ellerbrock, who won her first Super Series title at May’s Japan Open, withstood a strong challenge from first-time Super Series finalist and world No. 8 Lucy Shuker to prevail 63 46 61 at the Dwight Davis Tennis Centre.

After Friday’s fourth day of play had been lost to rain, the men’s singles semifinals were among the matches to be held over and the semifinal between world No. 1 Houdet and fourth seed Gordon Reid of Great Britain was well worth waiting for as Houdet managed to battle his way to a hard-won 64 67 63 victory.

Both Houdet and world No. 6 Jeremiasz will contest their ninth Super Series final apiece after third seed Jeremiasz eased past Argentinean second seed Gustavo Fernandez, beating the world No. 5 61 63.

The two French players have contested one US Open USTA Championships final each before, with Jeremiasz winning the title in 2005 and Houdet finishing runner-up in 2009.

Two multiple champions will go head-to-head in the quad singles final after second seed Taylor made a tremendous comeback against Canada’s Sarah Hunter in his semifinal to win eight of the last ten games to complete a 16 75 62 victory.

Meanwhile, top seed and world No. 2 Wagner secured a more comfortable 64 60 victory over his fellow American Greg Hasterok.

Houdet and Reid will attempt to justify top seeding in the men’s doubles final after beating Argentina’s Agustin  Ledesma and Eliecer Oquendo of Colombia 60 63 in the semifinals.

Second seeds Fernandez and Jeremiasz also dropped just three games in their semifinal as they defeated Ben Weekes of Australia and Stephen Welch of USA 63 60.

There was an upset in the women’s doubles semifinals as Yuka Chokyu of Canada and Francisca Mardones of Chile beat last week’s PTR Championships winners and second seeds Katharina Kruger of Germany and Shuker 64 63.

Chokyu and Mardones face tough task in the final as they take on top seeds Ellerbrock and Sharon Walraven of the Netherlands, who eased through their semifinal against American duo Marianne Page and Jessica Sporte 60 60.

Taylor and Wagner stayed on course in their bid to regain the quad doubles title they have won so many times before when they defeated British duo Antony Cotterill and Adam Field 63 61.

Taylor and Wagner face second seeds  Bryan Barten and Hasterok in another all-American final after Barten and Hasterok beat David Buck and Francois Trawalter 61 76 in their semifinal.
