Winners at the Smash Academy Egypt ITF Junior Tournament

Egypt's sixteenth ITF Grade 2 event took place last week in Cairo. There were great performances from the side of the players and it was a well organized tournament by the organisers, despite the heahot weather during Cairo's heatwave.

Italy's Filippo Baldi took the boys' title without the loss of a set.  The only resistance he met was in the semi-finals against Daniil Medvedev (RUS) 76 (5) 64.  Fourth seed Baldi wasted no time in claiming his first Grade 2 title, brushing aside his final opponent Matej Maruscak (SVK) 61 61.

Meanwhile, the girls performed at an equally high level with Katy Dunne (GBR) and Anastasiya Komardina (RUS) rejoicing the spectators with a great final.  Dunne fought back from one set down to take her first title win at this level, 46 62 61.

The boys' and girls’ doubles finals kept the coaches and supporters on tenterhooks as both were won in match tie-breaks. Chi-Shan Jao (TPE) and Mazen Osama (EGY) defeated Petros Chrysochos (CYP) and Michail Pervolarakis (CYP) 75 36 (10-8) and, on the girls’ side, Justine De Sutter (BEL) and Ilze Hattingh (RSA) defeated Katy Dune (GBR) and Anastasiya Komardina (RUS) 36 61 (11-9).
