The final day of round robin matches in the quad and junior events at the BNP Paribas World Team Cup saw third seeds Israel beat second seeds Great Britain in a deciding doubles match in Group B in the quad event at the Olympic Park Tennis Centre in Seoul, Korea Republic..
World No. 4 Andrew Lapthorne beat world No. 6 Shraga Weinberg 62 63 to give Great Britain the lead, but world No; 3 Noam Gershony came from a set down to defeat world No. 2 Peter Norfolk 46 64 61 and leave the tie finely poised.
However, Gershony and Shraga Weinberg claimed the final two games in both sets of the crucial doubles rubber to beat Australian Open champions Lapthorne and Norfolk 75 75.
The other Group B contest between Canada and South Africa also ended in a tense deciding doubles rubber as Stephen Kekai and Lucas Sithole beat Adrian Dieleman and Gary Luker 64 46 63.
Dieleman and Sithole had secured comfortable staight sets wins over Kekai and Luker respectively to force the tie into the doubles.
Bryan Barten, Nick Taylor and David Wagner beat Japan 3-0 to leave top seeds USA at the top of Group A. Barten and Wagner eased to victory in their singles rubbers against Takahiro Koga and Shota Kawano, while Taylor and Wagner had few problems in reeling through the doubles rubber against Koga and Takashi Nagaoka 60 60.
USA will face Great Britain in the cross-over semifinals, while Israel will take on Japan..
Canada and Italy will go head-to-head to decide fifth place and host nation Korea Republic will attempt to end their first time in the quad event on a winning note when they take on South Africa in the play off for seventh place.
In the junior event top seeds Great Britain beat South Africa 3-0 and will finish top of Group A, while Netherlands will head Group B after beating Russia 3.0.
Wtih Britain and South Africa both unbeaten in their first two ties, it was South Africa that made the better start to their final group match as Mabel Mankgele dropped dropped just one game in the first set of her singles rubber against Lauren Jones. But Jones fought back to win 16 64 62 and Cruyff Foundation Junior Masters champioin Alfie Hewett ensured the win before pairing up with Jones to win the doubles rubber 64 63.
Iraq also beat Argentina 3-0 in Group A, while Shelby Baron got USA off to a good start as USA beat Mexico 3-0 in Group B.
Thomas Zonder, Jeroen Staman and Carlos Anker dropped a total of just two games between them in the Netherlands 3-0 win over Russia and with the Dutch second seeds finishing at the top of Group A, they will now play South Africa in the semifinals, while Great Britain will meet USA.
Russia, one of two nations making their debuts in the junior event at the BNP Paribas World Team Cup, will play Iraq for fifth place, while Mexico, who are also making their debut in the junior event, will face Argentina for seventh place.
