Gustavo Fernandez of Argentina and Sabine Ellerbrock of Germany clinched the first Super Series titles of their careers on Saturday when they won the men's and women's singles finals at the Japan Open, a part of the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour, in Iizuka, Fukuoka.

Fernandez and Ellerbriock sealed their victories the day after world No. 1 David Wagner won his sixth successive Japan Open quad singles title.

World No. 15 Fernandez completed a spectacular week during which he beat the top two ranked players in the world, as he secured a 63 63 win over world No. 2 Stephane Houdet of France in the men's singles.

Fernandez had never reached a Super Series semifinal before this week and came into the tournament unseeded. Meanwhile, Houdet finished as runner-up in the Japan Open for the third time in four years.

World No. 5 Ellerbrock, the highest ranked non-Dutch player in the women's singles world rankings, overcame world No. 4 and third seed Marjolein Buis 63 64 in the women's singles final as Buis collected runners-up honours for the second year in succession.
