Further teams qualify for Finals in Prostejov

Australian WJT team - Winners at the Asia/Oceania Final Qualifying event

Qualifying in Asia/Oceania and South America came to an end at the weekend with a further ten teams qualifying for the World Junior Tennis Finals in Prostejov, Czech Republic.

The South America qualifying event was held in Santiago, Chile and saw the top three boys’ teams and three girls’ teams qualify for the World Finals.  Brazil took first place in the boys’ event defeating Argentina in the final, with Chile taking third place with a 2-0 victory over Peru. Colombia took victory in the girls’ event after overcoming Peru, while Argentina claimed third place over top seeds Paraguay. 

The Asia/Oceania Final Qualifying was held in Kuching, Malaysia, with 16 teams competing for the four available spots at the Finals.  Australia claimed first place without dropping a rubber in the week of competition, defeating China in the final.  Third place was awarded to India who produced a whitewash victory over Thailand. All four teams will travel to the Finals in Prostejov in August.

Action in the junior team competitions now takes a break until 11th June when African qualifying will get underway in Algeria.
